Our story has two beginnings. In the spring of 1966 we became high school sweethearts. The passion of first love was strong, and equally powerful were our disconnects. If only we had known then what we know now. Eventually, separated by distance and life choices, and with no clear understanding of why we struggled, we drifted apart. Little did we know that this first encounter would serve us well later in life.
After three decades, we reunited in early 2000, and our second beginning was like coming home. More mature this time around, we made the commitment to keep our magical connection. Within a month, we decided to attend a "Getting the Love You Want" workshop in Truckee, California led by Imago therapist Rolf Godon and his partner Tanzy Maxfield. The weekend was both insightful and inspiring. The Imago theory helped us understand ourselves and each other in new ways. We were introduced to the Intentional Dialogue, a transformational tool that would prove to be the basis for truly knowing each other. This communication skill helped us uncover some of our deepest childhood wounds. We see these challenges as opportunities for growth as individuals and as a couple.
To help meet these challenges, we practice a daily ritual that includes a reading and a recitation of our relationship vision. We realize that building and maintaining the relationship of our dreams will last a lifetime. The tenets of Imago have helped us to develop a conscious relationship and our goal is to share this knowledge with others. Our journey, which includes years of workshops, conferences and training, took us to the home of Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt in Abiquiu, New Mexico where we formed Imago Couples International.
While in New Mexico we met David Steele, founder of Relationship Coaching Institute. With his encouragement we began taking the classes that would lead to our certification as Relationship Coaches. Now, in addition to our workshops and facilitation of Couples Circles, we enjoy a practice that has become our life's work.
